  • WSAF 2010 : Web Team Recruitment!!!

Do you want to help create the fanciest, most exciting website for the world’s largest student-run arts festival? We need people who are a bit of a whizz at creating graphics (to make the site look good), along with people to code the site (to make it work smoothly). Don’t worry if you have never actually created a website before, it’s more important that you’re a quick learner and are willing to put in the effort.

If you have a creative flare and want to help out with the graphics, it would be beneficial if:

    • You know how to use Adobe Photoshop

    • Know how to use/have some experience of Adobe Fireworks

    • A basic grasp of web design and creating graphics that work for websites

    • Use of Adobe Flash

    As for the coders:

    You need to understand:

    • HTML and CSS (basic level min. required)

    • A basic grasp of web design

    • How to upload files using FTP

And it would also help if you had a knowledge of:

    • Programming dynamic web pages (PHP/JSP)

    • Database design and use (PostgreSQL/MySQL)

    • Programming in JavaScript

    • Use of Adobe Flash

    • Understanding of encryption and web security

If you would like to be on the WSAF 2010 Web team, or have any questions (however stupid), please email seb.dangerfield@wsaf.org.uk. It would help if you could indicate which of the above you can already do and if you have created any sites before, some URLs would be lovely (got to find something to distract me from those deadlines!).

(If all of the above is a little scary, don’t be afraid to email anyway, there are plenty of opportunities to help, and gain some knowledge in the process)

  • Communities Day

One of the newer aims of SPLAT 2009 is to strengthen relations between Warwick University students and the diverse communities surrounding the campus. That’s why this year, the festival will open with our Communities Day, taking place on 21st June.

All events are open to the public, so be prepared to see students as you’ve never seen them before! Bring the whole family to experience an artistic overload – from Street dancing to Bollywood rhythms, folk music to Rock Gospel, there really is something for everyone. Ever fancied learning the drums, or trying out some Thai kick-boxing? Well now you can, and the best part is, it’s all free! So come down to campus on Sunday 21st June and have some summer fun with all the family. Members of the public are also welcome to attend other events throughout the week, just check out our events section for details.

In an effort to build on the University’s links with local schools, we are also pleased to invite groups of pupils from all over the area onto campus for a day workshops, led by our diverse, student-run societies.

For details on how to find us, please go to our directions page:

  • Venues - Exciting development

The curator of the Mead Gallery has given permission for students to use Toby Patterson’s Artist Pavilion for the week of SPLAT-fest. It was commissioned to stand outside the London Assembly last summer and was used by buskers, dance performers, local amateur dramatic societies and lots of children as well as sunbathing/sheltering office workers. The pavilion will be over beside University house and would be a great space for any installation theatre and exhibitions. Take a look at the photo on the venues page!
